Annie Londonderry

– the first woman to go around the world on a bicycle

Annie Londonderry changed the world when she shaped the world’s view on women by becoming a cycling maverick. Despite her notoriety during her adventures, her story was eventually lost to the public eye.  Recently, a relative of Annie uncovered her story and wrote a book, “Around the World on Two Wheels: Annie Londonderry’s Extraordinary Ride” by Peter Zheutlin.  I read Peter’s book and fell in love with Londonderry’s story.  I currently own the right to her story and have adapted it into a feature length film.

Londonderry  also inspired a documentary, “The New Woman: Annie ‘Londonderry’ Kopchovksy”  currently being produced by Gillian Klempner Willma and has been mentioned in several books and articles this past year as well as inspired a theatrical event called “Spin” created by Evalyn Parry.  Both wonderful women that were inspired by Londonderry’s *chutzpah and adventures.

This blog is about Annie and her passions – cycling, adventure and women’s rights.  Currently two more amazing women, Emilia Bandel and Chiara Telarucci have joined the project. They are two Italian film producers inspired when they read of Annie’s adventures when Peter’s book was translated into Italian this past year.  I hope you will join us on our adventures and follow the film’s progress here on this website.

*In Hebrew, chutzpah is used indignantly, to describe someone who has overstepped the boundaries of accepted behavior –
